How much does it cost to ship a car? There are many different factors that go into pricing a shipment of a vehicle. The biggest factor is, of course, what type of car it is. Is it a small compact sedan? Or a giant full-size truck? Typically, the smaller the car, the lower the price will be, because it takes up less room on the auto transport trailer. If you're shipping a full-size duly truck, chances are it's going to cost more, because truckers don't like hauling those as much. They're bigger, and depending on the size can take up two spaces on the carrier. Another thing that affects price is the route. Auto shipping is route-based, which means trucks like to travel from certain areas to other certain areas. Los Angeles to Houston is a popular route, so chances are your price will be cheaper because there will be more trucks in LA to pick it up. Typically, shipping from a large city (such as Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, Seattle, etc) will not only ensure a cheaper price, but also a faster pickup because there are local trucking companies located in larger cities. However, if you're on a rural car shipping route, such as from Iowa or Kansas, you're most likely going to be paying more, because few trucks like to travel in those cities. Distance also affects price. Trucks can only travel roughly 300-350 miles per day, so the longer your car is sitting on the truck, the more expensive it will be. Cross-country routes can cost upwards of $1,000 or more, while coast-based route (Los Angeles to Seattle, Fort Lauderdale to Boston) will cost considerably less.
