Reno is a city in and the county seat of Washoe County, Nevada. As of the 2000 US Census the city’s population was over 215,000 and currently ranks as the third largest city in the state after Las Vegas and Henderson. It is also the principal city of the Reno-Sparks Metropolitan Statistical Area, which covers all of Storey and Washoe counties.

The city was first founded in 1868 and was selected to become the county seat for the newly created Washoe County not long afterwards. During the early 20th century the city experienced a mining boom which helped the population to grow considerably. The legalization of gambling in Nevada in 1931 created a large casino boom which helped the population of the city to grow even more and currently is second only to Las Vegas in terms of casinos.

During the summer months the city’s temperatures hit around 90 degrees during the day and overnight lows can drop into the upper 60′s. During the winter, however, things tend to cool down with highs in the upper 60′s and lows often in the low 50′s.
