Great Falls is a city in and the county seat of Cascade County, Montana, and according to the official 2000 US Census the population of the city was over 56,000, making it the second largest city in the state after Billings. It is the principal city of the Great Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The name comes from the many waterfalls that surround the city and it was founded as a power city to help the rail lines that were running through the area. It became a transportation and rail center after it was founded, though population growth through the early 20th century has taken its toll on the city, with rail usage slowing and transportation taking a back seat to its shifted economy.

During the summer months temperatures in the city average around 80 degrees during the day, with lows typically dropping down to around 45 degrees or so overnight.
