Fargo is the largest city in the state of North Dakota and is the county seat of Cass County. As of 2008, the population was eclipsing 100,000 residents, and the greater Fargo metropolitan area had a population of roughly 192,000. The metropolitan area is comprised of Fargo, West Fargo, and its twin city of Moorhead, Minnesota, which make up the Fargo-Moorhead ND-MN Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The city was originally a stopping point for steamboats coming down the Red River during the 1870′s and 1880′s, and was officially founded in 1871. The city’s growth was slow at first, and in 1890 a fire nearly destroyed the entire city. However, it was quickly rebuilt using brick to build the new buildings, and civic improvements (such as a water system) were implemented. In recent years, Fargo has seen a huge influx of high-tech companies investing money in the city and building offices there, and the city is known for having one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.

The city is characterized by long, hot summers and short, cold winters. Typical average temperatures in the summer hover around 82 degrees for the high, and around 60 degrees for the average low. During the winter, temperatures get as high as 25 degrees and, believe it or not, hover around 0 degrees for the lows during the winter.
