Beaverton is a city in Washington County, Oregon. It is just seven miles west of Portland, the county seat of Multnomah County, and according to an official US Census estimate taken in 2008 the population of the city was over 86,000. It is the second largest city in Washington County and is also the sixth largest in Oregon.

It was known originally as Beaverdam and the first grist mill in the area was built in 1847. The name of the city was officially changed to Beaverton in 1872 and it was then incorporated in 1893. The city exhibited continual, if slow, growth until roughly the 1970′s, when the city’s economy shifted from manufacturing to service-based jobs.
