Beaumont is a city in and it is also the county seat of Jefferson County, Texas, and according to an official US Census Bureau estimate taken in 2006 the population of the city was over 113,000 and it helps to form the Golden Triangle, which is a major industrial area on the Gulf Coast. It was founded and settled in 1835 and was incorporated three years later in 1838. The name actually comes from Henry Millard, who named the town after his late wife’s maiden name, and it was originally inhabited by cattle raisers and farmers as it was growing. Oil was discovered around 1900 and the city began to grow quickly, and today it is a leading exporter of oil.
