Bartlesville is a city located in Washington County, Oklahoma, and as of the 2000 US Census the city’s population was over 34,000. It is located just 47 miles north of Tulsa and is quite close to the Kansas border. It is the county seat of Washington County, though part of the city does spill over into Osage County.

Bartlesville is notable because it is the longtime home of what was Phillips Petroleum Company, who merged with Conoco to form ConocoPhillips. The company was founded in 1905 and has always been the city’s largest employer. The city has one daily newspaper and also several radio stations.
