Anderson is a city in and the county seat of Anderson County, South Carolina; as of the 2000 US Census the city’s population was 25,000. It is also the principal city of the Anderson Metropolitan Statistical Area, which according to the 2000 US Census had a population of over 165,000 and is included in the much larger Greenville-Spartanburg-Anderson Combined Statistical Area.

The city was first founded after the county was founded in the early 19th century. Settlers to the area were primarily from Scotland and Ireland who came from Virginia to farm. Agriculture was a huge earner for the city and it was also the first city to have a continuous supply of electricity. The city earned the nickname “The Electric City,” a name that still holds to this day.

Anderson is known for its warmer summers and cold winters. During the summer months the city’s temperature hits around 87 degrees during the day, with temperatures dropping into the mid to upper 60′s overnight. During the winter months high temperatures top off around 53 degrees with lows often below freezing.
