Albany is a city in both Benton and Linn Counties, though it is currently the county seat of Linn County. According to the official 2000 US Census conducted in 2000 the population of the city was over 40,000 and was the 11th largest city in the state of Oregon.

It was founded in 1848 by two men from Albany, New York, who named the new city they had founded after their home town. A post office was established in 1850 and it was named the county seat of Linn County in 1853, though it wouldn’t be until 1864 that the city would be incorporated.
